Skin & Blister Research

Skin & Blister is a new screendance film which I began researching in the studio this week thanks to Dance Ireland’s member studios. After making ‘O before I’ (my first dance film) I knew I wanted to create more work like this but I wasn’t necessarily ready to go back to that specific topic or to work with my mam again. What spoke to me was a need to express contact and human connection, relationships and special bonds so I decided to work with two of my dear friends Sophie and Rachel. Sophie and Rachel’s personal friendship also stems back to childhood.

It was a precious few days in the studio considering the country was pushed back to Level 5 lockdown on our final day. We joked about feeling as if we were on the sinking titanic, having our last hurrah and dancing our last dance together for some time.

The great thing about film is that I can carry on researching without being in the studio. I’m beginning to compile references and shot ideas with the hope of filming early next year.
